Kim Allen-Niessen is an LA mom who has been in our show before. She was excited to submit to the Chicago show because her son goes to college in Chicago. We are happy to have her in our upcoming show. Read about Kim below.
Where do you live, how many kids do you have, ages?
Los Angeles, two children a son who is a freshman at Northwestern University and is 19 and a daughter who is a junior in high school and is 16
How are you creative post children? How has it changed since pre-baby?
For me it’s less post children and more post law practice. Since leaving the practice of law 6 years ago, I’ve found a creative outlet in writing, art and as a spiritual director. I love writing essays. Last year I started touring kids as a docent at LACMA. This year I’ve started designing my own art and spiritual formation excursions combing both my love for art and spiritual direction.
When do you find time to create?
One of the blessings of menopause is that you don’t sleep :)
How did you hear about ExMo?
Writer friends who performed for the show in the past is how I first heard about it before my initial appearance in the spring 2010 show.
Do you have a background in acting/writing?
Not really, my training is in the law, which involves writing. While no one wants to hear me stand up and read a legal brief, the training comes out in my style of writing.
What creative projects are you up to?
My sort-of-monthly art and spiritual formation exercises are my most consistent creative project at this time. But how I use my love of writing, art and spiritual direction seems to grow and evolve each year. It’s an exciting time for me.
